SPEAKERS:
October 2 - Kimberly Simmons. Author and historian Kim Simmons is the descendant of Caroline Quarles, who escaped slavery as a teenager and was conducted across the Underground Railroad. Quarles was passed from Detroit to Canada very near the Fort while it was being built. Join us to hear the story of the brave woman, her journey, and the legacy she has left in the region! Register for Kim Simmons' talk here.

October 9 - John Weaver. Did you know Historic Fort Wayne was part of a larger defensive effort? Join us for a presentation by historian and author John Weaver about Fort Wayne and its role in the Northern Frontier Forts. A Michigan native, Weaver journeys to us from Indiana to share this interesting story with you. Register for John Weaver's talk here.

October 23 - Jack Dempsey. Who was Alpheus Williams, the man celebrated with the large equestrian statue on Belle Isle? Join us at Historic Fort Wayne to learn more about this great Michigan story from author and former chair of the Michigan Historical Commission, Jack Dempsey. From civilian life, to his service at Fort Wayne, to the lead up to Antietam, Williams earned his statue - though he is unknown to many today.  Register for Jack Dempsey's talk here.
